Ward: Hyde Park
Streets Affected: Junction Place, London Street, Praed Street
Project Type: Streetscape
Project Overview
Praed Street is a busy thoroughfare adjacent to Paddington Rail and Underground Stations and St Mary’s Hospital.
Pedestrian footway access and street lighting along Praed Street were identified as priorities for improvement, in partnership with Paddington Business Improvement District (PBID) as part of the Civic Streets program to improve district shopping centres in Westminster
The proposals for improving the public realm of the district shopping centre included:
- Widening the footways in front of premises on the south side (predominantly shops and cafes) between London Street and Junction Place, and installing new kerbs
- Improving street lighting and reducing clutter by relocating sign poles
- Providing a consistent new surface to forecourts of properties where possible to integrate with the upgraded footway
