Project Overview

Prior to the Royal Wedding WCC have investigated modifications to the traffic island on St Margaret’s Street with the possibility of installing a new crossing from the island to Parliament Square. The scheme’s primary aim is to upgrade the streetscape near the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey whilst also improving pedestrian facilities.

The proposals include the following improvements to the streetscape environment:

• Installing a new island that is flush with the carriageway;
• Introducing a new signalised pedestrian crossing to Parliament Square.
