Oxford Street Bus Measures

Oxford Street Bus Measures

Ward: Bryanston and Dorset Square

Streets Affected: Marble Arch, Oxford Street

Project Type: Streetscape

Project Overview

As part of the ORB (Oxford Street - Regent Street – Bond Street) area improvements program, measures were included to improve bus stop clearways and bus stop accessibility in Oxford Street

Prior scheme development included consultation with key ORB stakeholders and TfL London Buses

Initial designs for improvements at 23 bus stops along Oxford Street (Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road) commenced in January 2009 to include: road markings, traffic signs, footway kerb heights, and repairs to carriageway rutting

Implementation was co-ordinated with planned periodic street closures as much as possible and 50% of bus stop improvements were completed by March 2009, with further works carried out in June 2009 and the eastern section of Oxford Street completed in September 2009

A review of traffic management orders and rationalisation of other traffic signing and road markings along Oxford Street was also integrated with the work
