Planned Preventative Maintenance

Planned Preventative Maintenance

All structures deteriorate over time and any work aimed at maintaining the durability of the bridge or other highway structure is classed as Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM). Such work can be divided into two broad headings:

Structural                  This is essential to ensure the integrity and load carrying
capacity of the Bridge /Structure is maintained

Non-Structural          Such works includes:
Renewal of Mechanical and Electrical equipment
                                 Renewal of Lighting
                                 Major Repainting / Corrosion Protection
Renewal / Replacement of drainage systems etc.

Where maintenance works are required a schedule of prioritised PPM is determined.
The prioritisation process embraces the need to ensure minimal disruption to the network taking full account of programmed schemes other than maintenance on nearby routes.

These works comprise and ongoing programme of minor schemes ranging from £500 to £80,000 each.  The annual value of PPM is around £500,000
