Project Overview
Grosvenor in conjunction with Westminster City Council are proposing streetscape improvements on the northern half of Berkeley Square. The proposed aim is to Improve this important intersection in a way that enhances its sense of place and optimises pedestrian movement whilst supporting the wider transport network by enabling the implementation of a two-way operation on Davies Street. The highway improvements are indicated on the enclosed drawing and include the following:
- Removing the traffic signals at the junction of Berkeley Square, Mount Street and Davies Street and introduction of a two-way traffic operation across the junction to enable the implementation of the Davies Street two-way project.
- Introduction unsignallized pedestrian crossings aligned with pedestrian desire lines.
- Widening the footways on Berkeley square, Berkeley street, Mount street and Davies street
- Installation of granite setts on the carriageway at the junction Mount Street, Berkeley Square and Davies Street, including a granite setts buff mix colour at the pedestrian crossing points.
- Improving footways by replacing ASP with Yorkstone paving
- New granite setts in the parking and loading bays on Berkeley square and Davies Street
- Upgrade of existing highway lighting,
- Reorganizing the parking, waiting and loading layout in the area to suit of the overall public realm improvements, ensuring that there is a minimal impact on the parking and loading provision. FM Conway has been commissioned to proceed with the initial design for the scheme.
